New comment approval method, new thread....
Parent - By Magnanimous Date 2008-04-03 23:59
Under the system the new owners have put in place, MNs review all submitted comments before they're posted.

I have reviewed just a few (there are several hundred) and wanted to let people know my own approach to it.  (Other MNs might differ.)  Basically, I'll post anything that's reasonably related to the nitpick or previous comments unless it's rude, obscene, nonsensical, submitted on the wrong movie, a complete duplicate of an existing comment, or irrelevant.  (There might be other disqualifiers I haven't thought of.)  I won't refuse to post a comment just because I disagree or think it's wrong.

Nitpicks that do nothing more than say "This nitpick is invalid.  Please refute." or "This nitpick is a duplicate of nitpick #12345." are irrelevant - that's what the "refute" and "duplicate" functions are for.  OK, so those functions may not be working correctly now, but it appears they are being fixed.  (I saw a "test" refute nomination in the queue.)  Until they're fixed, those comments won't do any good.  And when they are fixed, we won't want or need a bunch of "please refute" or "this is a duplicate" comments sitting around on nitpicks.  If it bothers you that a nitpick isn't refuted or marked as a duplicate, the best suggestion I can give is to either forget it for the moment or else write it down so you can nominate it once the function is working properly.

Is anyone posting new movies?

Have a look at this thread.  We can add them, but it will take several MNs to get everything done.  If you have an urgent request, please post in the thread I've linked to.  We don't have to review titles in the order submitted, so if there's one that should be added now, we can do it.

I just went through and reviewed the comments for all the movies I have seen, and there are a couple of things I find frustrating about the way this is set up:

1.  We really need a "skip" option.  Once you see the comment to be reviewed, you can only accept or deny -- the only way to get out of it is to reload some other page, which also causes problems with the programming.

2.  Whenever you review a comment you get a "back" button, but it takes you back to the beginning of the queue of comments, even if you were on page 7 or something.
